On wild birds? There is a 1 oz 71/2 shot load that looks like it might work well.

Someone gave me a couple boxes of 1 oz #6 or #5 a couple seasons ago. Seemed to wack a wild SD rooster pretty well.

The 5s have been very effective for me on wild roosters.

I didn't particularly care for the Fiochchi #5's in the 20ga. I felt that I got better results with the #6's. I do like the #5's in my 16ga for late season roosters. They seem to strike like the Hammer of Thor.

My experience was on mid-November fully plumed mature birds, on private land where there had been a lot of pressure. Long points with runners... The BSS twenty with 26" mod/full with 5s did it.

I have not tried the 20ga, but back before Canada outlawed lead for waterfowl, I took a flat of 12ga 3" Fiocchi nickel plated 4s up to Saskatchewan for my annual prairie duck and goose hunt. This must have been 1993 or so. I shot most of the flat on the trip and was very happy with the results; that was a killing load. What I brought home I used for several years on Turkey. Great loadss...Geo

I have used Golden Pheasant #'s 5 & 6 for the past couple of years with great success in an SKB w/ mod & full as well as a Beretta Auto with a modified choke. My hunt is nothing but wild birds the second week of November, so I guess those are pretty late season birds!!
