I am in temporary custody of a Crescent New Empire 410. It has a splinter fore end, but there's no latch. How do I break this thing down?

It's held on by spring pressure-just grab the end toward the muzzles and pull down

be careful putting the forend back on...the wood is quite dry on a lot of those old crescents [lot of time in the attic] and when it snaps down it can crack the wood....take it from one that found out the hard way

And there are no dumb questions here, friend. No one knows everything. Asking is always better than a bad experience. There's not a soul here who hasn't asked for assistance. Season's greetings.
