I put this together some time ago from comments and pics posted by Dave on several forums and threads, without his permission or encouragement http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/22641451

He hasn't sued me yet SO I'd like to add pics of different grade guns or Tobin advertisments for reference when questions arise. Post here or send by jpg attachment to revdoc2@cox.net and thanks. As previously stated, this is not a commercial website.

Very nicely done. I am amazed at the quality of the engraving and wonder if the rest of the gun was as nicely done, the locks, bolting etc.I am also amazed at the amount of knowledge that Mr. Hause and "Researcher" have and their willingness to share it.

Thanks but I'm just the librarian. Most of the stuff here is also from Daryl, Researcher, Ross Berck, and Greg Martin Auctions

I have two Tobins, both built in Norwich. One is a grade 20 with nothing special about it, and the other is a Trap Grade 50 ET. Both guns show a good quality of fit and finish, and the Trap Gun is nicely engraved. However, both guns are loose in the joint in spite of not showing a lot of use or wear otherwise. My opinion is that the fault is in the design of the action. To make room for the cocking mechanism and hammer springs, too much metal has to be removed from the frame, making it subject to stretching and becoming loose in the joint. The single trigger mechanism is unique, but seems to work reliably. On my gun, the selector selects either right/left, or left only, and it was built that way for some reason. Does anyone know if the trigger design was patented, and if so by whom?

Higher grade guns are quite nice inside. THe Tobin Single trigger is a PITA. Both difficult to set correctly and the fact that it swings wider than the opening in the floor of the stock is a tough one to figure out. The 55ET shown was a nice straight grip that took a lot of Pheasants.

Tom, I have had good results changing hinge pins. On my firt loose tobin I hade a new pin turned, on the second, I put in the pin from the first and it tightend it right up. The pin removed went off to Ted and tightend his shaker up.

Wonderful engraving! Thanks to both Dave and Drew.

Can either of you gentlemen tell us if the two pointers on the left side and the two setters on the right - a la Parker B-Grade style - were done by Joseph Loy or if they were done by William Gough? Both were either contractors to or employees of Parker Bros., also in Connecticut, in that time period and the engraving of the dogs is identical to what we see on Parkers of that period.
