I have a WWI-vintage German-made 16 bore facile princeps type ejector gun. The ejectors are out of wack and the gun won't close. A reputable gentleman who has done work for me in the past was unable to resolve the issue. Any recommendations for a gunsmith to time these finicky ejectors for me?

Clay, I am not sure of the nomenclature, but there is one Greener ejector design that Graham Greener warns no one but the Greener gunsmith in his shop should work on. Many guns of this type have been harmed by untrained smiths. This is from Mr. Greener, and not my experience. Of course, it's expensive to go to England for help. Several other Greener used ejectors are more common than the one I mentioned and easier to work .

Later-------------I just looked in my Greener file and Graham Greener calls the tough to work on ejectors, the G Ejectors. If your gun is not a G gun, you may have an easier time finding help.

Daryl,

Thank you for the information. I should have the gun back in a day or two, and I'll see if I can determine what type of ejectors it has. The thought of shipping the gun to England is not an appealing one!

Clay, here is the underside of a Greener G70 Imperial barrel. I think it will show you the G type ejector.

Daryl,

Many thanks for the photo. I don't have my gun in hand, but I think (I hope!) that mine is distinct from the one in the photo.

I'll find out in a day or two.

Send your gun to either Reto Buehler, Gunter Pfrommer, or JJ Perodeau. Any of these supremely talented craftsman could get those ejectors working properly. If it was my gun....it would go to Reto Buehler.

Dustin,

Thanks for the recommendations. I managed to reach J. J., and he has agreed to take a look at the gun (although he politely reminded me that most Greener-type ejectors can be problematic.)

Give Abe Chaber a call, he specializes in things Germanic.

Word the wise on "JJ". He had done good work for a me--and at least one of my home-boys. And my homie is a collector's collector; wow does he have guns!

But lately, we've had poor, slow service from him.

I thought my experience was an anomaly until recently: I was at a vintage shoot, munching my lunch and minding my own bees-wax, when his name came up. I don't remember how it started, but it the volume started low, then grew...and grew.

The stories would "part-your-hair". Common theme was slow, incomplete service. Some folks were down-right pissed off.

Here is a fact to consider, the last job I sent him had to be redone. He took about 6 months--with a lot of hounding, the next guy took 2 weeks.

Back to lunch: we all came to the same conclusion: it appears that he is now focused on selling guns, not fixing them.

Think I’m full for crap? I’d like to think you’have better luck than anyone I've met recently.

Then there is “Herbert” at Merkel USA. What a blessing it was that someone turned me on to him. But he only works on Merkels.
This guy is a stud. And he will stand behind his work with an old-school guarantee—but that’s another topic.

BB,

I hate to make assumptions about someone I haven't personally dealt with, but I very much appreciate your taking the time to pass on your experience.
