Super Fox guns have very tight chambers that often measure 2 1/2 in 2 3/4 guns. That said the man doing the work obviously knows his job so it could just be short and tight.

I'm sure we'll learn more about chambers and chokes of the Bo-Whoop HE. Austin Hogan recently examined and meticulosly measured this particular gun at Julia's last week. But this probably has little or no bearing on other Super Foxes.

My 2 cents, if it were mine, I'd like to see it restored. My choice for such a job might be Turnbull. But, I'm no collector and really can't say if restoration would be the best move. Guys like Researcher and eightbore and other experts would be be on my list of consultants for the decision to restore or not.

As far as restoration is concerned, I recently bought a GH Grade Parker fluid steel ten in very similar condition to the pictured HE Fox. I am torn about redoing the barrels but then I couldn't feel free to let her ride in a duck boat. I think I'll let my new Parker ride in the boat.

Repair the cracks, clean up the bbls, but don't reblue. Leave it as "as is" as possible.
If you refinish it, it's just another refinished Fox. The world doesn't need any more of them. The value will probably decline, too.
And he's mad that people wanted to buy it off him? That's funny. He should be happy. Being contacted means he has something nice.

I'm with Replacement... reblue the barrels and freshen up and then use it. I see some rust that has formed at the seam where the ribs meet the barrels and I'd want that abated. Rust blue can be controlled such that it won't look over done. Awesome Super Fox.

Bluing and varnish are put on guns for protection of the materials under them. If the gun is going to a museum, to be displayed with other guns that have been in hard service for several lifetimes, then, don't refinish. But, if it is going to be used and cared for, refinsh it and put it back into service.
The English are so much more intelligent about things like this. A beat up gun gets it's barrels re-blacked, it's stock refinished, any repairs it needs made, checkering pointed up and it goes back into the field, doing what it was designed to do.
I never understood those who worship at the alter of a beat up gun.
