Poly is good but don't use Minwax wipe on, it is very soft.The only time I used it was on a K-80, the gun had to be refinished in two summer months of use. I now mix my own by cutting floor grade poly with mineral spirits, about 20%, the same K 80 has been in service for 7 years and is just showing some wear. It shoots 10 to 15000 shells per year.

Looks great,although ,
I think you will be wiping additional coats ,
being a 5 day oil varnish wont be exeptionally deep per se,but,will get that gun back in the field post haste.
