Hello everyone! My boss recently gave me his grandfathers A. H. Fox side by side 12GA. I don't know much about them ecept what limited info i could find on my own. Here is the info I know:

The barrels are both stamped with an "O", Nest to the serial number (28326) is an "H" stamp. The last Patent date shown is June 11-12.

The shotgun is in pretty good shape, I am wondering what I have "REALLY" been given here?

Thanks in advance.....

It sounds like you have an HE-Grade Super-Fox, the A.H. Fox Gun Company's heavy waterfowl gun.

Sounds like April 1st arrived a little early this year. If you'd be from Michigan, there'd be a pink slip stuck in one of the barrels.

April 1st implies that it is a joke....is this a relatively "worthless" gun?

Relatively is a relative term. If you really have the gun and want information take some pictures of it. Include pics of the receiver flats and any writing and post them. You will get all the information you could ever want.
If not, Happy New Year (er April 1st.)

The serial range and the "H" makes this gun sound like a Super Fox HE Grade chambered for 3" shells. They were made from 1923 to 1942. The first one was serial# 28069. It was made for John Olin, owner if Western Cartridge Company and future owner of Winchester Arms Company. He developed the Super X 3" Shell.

What are the other markings stamped on the barrel flats and the frame?

Looks like what you have been given is a hell of a good Christmas bonus!

Your way off base here Don. The lowest serial number Super-Fox is 27800, the Dr. Leibold gun. Number 28069 was in the second batch of Super-Fox guns and went to Western Cartridge Co.
