I got a bit practical question, why front sight/bead is so huge?
I installed aprx. 1 mm (1/25") bead, but it closes target at 100 meters any way.

Nitro I never thought it was a 'bad thing'.

Geno my guess would be.

When something is approaching that is huge and could stomp a mudhole in your ass I would think it best to have a huge front bead.
i've never shot a .577 Nitro but I do own a loaded round, from the looks of it after you fired the first barrel you might be seeing double.

Thanks for all the comments everyone, for the history "400 NE".
Geno, I believe the front sight is about the original size set up for 25-50 yards. I am not a "smithie", or maker and cannot give a truly accurate answer on the subject. I just engrave them after the professionals are done with metal and wood.

All the best,

Barry.
Thanks for the pictorial. Out here in the sticks, I often have to open the pics individually and this was like unwrapping Christmas prestents. My only question is was the condition of the engraving such that you were able to chase it or did you have to recreate it or was it both? Congratulations to all involved in it's renaissance

Geno,
Your comments as to originality are well taken. If someone were to represent the gun as original that would be unethical. But for artisans to renew a fine gun to this level is only a compliment to the original maker. Your knowledge of European makers has been a benefit to all of us and we have enjoyed finding that across the ocean some maker, whose craftsmanship was recognized by one of us Norte's but of whom we knew nothing, was held in regard by those who knew more than us. Now you know of J. Fisher.

.400,
Thank you for your insights. Esoteric knowledge such as yours and Geno's are invaluable. You now go on my short list for go-
to guys when I am stumpeed.

A Happy New Year to all.
