Merry Christmas everyone. I may have found myself a new present but was wanting some input before I make the plunge.
Neigbor's son aquired an Elsie field grade 12, 28" armor steel barrels (F/M), double bead, beavertail f/e, non-original red pad.
Barrels would grade out to 95%+, wood is excellent with a few light hunting marks, serial # 179xxx (1937?), CC are good (?)I would say 30-40% on the left side, bottom and top (more on protected areas) BUT the metal on the right side of the receiver has turned a mottled grey. I'm guessing that the gun was stored on this side and the metal must have come into contact with some material that effected the wear of the case colors. Just a guess. The metal is not pitted or bad, just no CC's. The young man that owns it also told me the gun had ejectors - however, it does not. Extractors and ejectors must look the same to most new double barrel owners.
I was thinking it was a good deal at $800 (but that was when I was told it had ejectors)After I had it in my hands, I still think it's a great gun. I like the beavertail f/e and it really is in great shape for being 75 years old. I offered $600 and the owner is considering it. His parents let the cat out of the bag, by telling me that their son bought the gun at a frat party five years ago for $75. Made me wish I'd offered him less.
How common is the beavertail f/e? Deal or NO-Deal at $600?
Hope everyone has a great Christmas, it's the best birthday party of the year.
