Tom, a beautiful gun! Thank you for letting us look at it. Looks like McGraw's engraving work. I suggest trying a soft rubber pencil eraser on the duck that's on the trigger plate. These are usually gold but yours looks like tarnished silver. Also, I think it has been re-butt stocked??

Thanks for the help, Walt. You're right, the stock isn't original and I believe the barrel was re-blued. It is what it is - it's still an interesting gun.

Ya gota wonder what it has been up to in its 80 year life. It is always amazing to me that mechanics of this age are just as useful now as it was when John Boa took it to the GAH!! This type of thing keeps me hooked! Thanks again Tom.
btw, while it doesn't have the Sousa checkering pattern, it still looks like factory wood and shape. Is its serial number stamped in the stock under the trigger guard?

I'll check to see if the serial number is stamped under the trigger bow, but it looks to me like a lower grade stock. I didn't know Ithaca marked the serial number under the trigger bow, similar to a Parker. I'll check it out in the next day or so and let you know.

Walt - I tried your pencil eraser trick and I now have a beautiful gold duck on the trigger plate! Also, to my complete surprise, I removed the trigger bow and the butt stock is serial numbered to the gun. The checkering on the stock isn't elaborate enough, in my opinion, to complement such a high grade gun, which is why I didn't think it was origiinal. Do you think it could have been replaced at Ithaca at a later date? The numbering looks factory.
