I have a question on non-residents buying guns in CT. Is a non resident able to buy a gun in CT by just filling out the 4473 and getting the instant background check done? Or does CT require a Firearms ID card like NJ does, which effectively prohibits non residents from buying firearms in the state? Thanks. Silvers

CT requires a State of Connecticut Pistol Permit or a valid Connecticut Hunting license to purchase firearms within the State. Operative word: Connecticut.

After completing the purchase application at your dealers, the dealer then calls in the required info. To the Connecticut DPS.The firearms unit assigns a transfer number to the dealer. If everything checks out all right. You then have to wait 15 days from the date your dealer obtained the go ahead and you have to pick up the firearm at the dealers and then complete the 4473 and any additional paperwork . It is then your responsabilty to comply with your state requirments for purchaseing the firarm. This applys for all long guns sold by a Connecticut firearms dealer.

Thanks very much gents. I was thinking about attending the Stamford CT Gun Show but the regs are too complicated for a non resident like me to buy a gun on the floor with just the conventional 4473 and call for the background check. I'll go hunting that weekend instead. Silvers
