Whenever the WD-40 bashers start their diatribe I have to wonder how many of them have ever even used WD-40, let alone personally experienced the usual alleged problems. Polly wanna cracker? WD-40 IS a poor lubricant simply because it's too thin for most applications, not because it turns to "instant varnish" as is so often alleged. I have used it for about 50 years and have never seen it turn to "varnish". It is a pretty fair bore cleaner and an excellent bore preserver and rust preventative. The Water Displacing ability makes it a fine bore coating to use after cleaning muzzle loaders with water(the best way). I have not had much use for it as a penetrating oil. I prefer Liquid Wrench or Kroil.
I'm speaking from many years of personal experience, not what I read somewhere or heard somebody's uncle daddy say.
