Hello Michael,
I am currently about a county away from Barry county and have spoken with you a little bit about Mr. Howe in the past. My grandfather built custom Mausers and Springfields in his retirement and at some time he either corresponded with Mr. Howe or knew someone who knew him. At the old shop there is his two volume book signed by Mr. Howe. Ive tried searching online for a tombstone with his name on it but have not succeeded. Any leads and I could drive down there and look around.
I also have some pictures of engraved rifles that I have been meaning to scan and send to you, along with some engraving questions. My grandfather worked for the Peninsular Engraving Company in Detroit as a young man just prior to WWI and I cannot find any information about it. Ill try to get those pictures scanned next time Im back home and in the mean time let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
I'm fairly certain that he is the one and the same who died March 1969 in Barry county but I have no idea what he did the last twenty so years of his life. I have tried online to find an obit and well as some phone calls that netted zero. Drop me a line at mjpetrov@acsalaska.net and send you everything I have.
I would be very happy to look at any engraved gun pictures. There is a lot of info on the net about "Peninsular Engraving",looks like they did a lot work for the auto companies.
