Dear Mr Dube,
Thank you for your enquiry.
W W Greener gun no. 34390 was started on 14th May 1892 and finished on 17th August of the
same year. It is described as a double barrel hammerless 'D'
model 12 bore shotgun with 32 inch Damascus barrels. The 'D' model means it has an Anson
& Deeley type action it is a non-ejector and it cost 10 guineas (£10.50). While this is
an inexpensive grade gun it is still well made and it has the famous Greener cross-bolt
making the action very strong in comparison with other maker's guns.
The stock dimensions when made were 2-3/4 by 2 by 14-1.4 inches, half pistol hand. The
'D' model was also known as the 'Forester' model and primarily was used by game keepers,
foresters and wild-fowlers. The machined engraving is common for a lot of these guns.
The original owner was a Mr Thompson.
