I was playing on EBay doing some key word searches and found a photo album that had twenty-four pages with about five of them showing pictures of early custom sporting rifles such as S.R. Griffin & Owen. I bid and won the scrap book and while waiting for it to arrive I asked the seller if they could tell me anything about where it came from. The seller told me that it was from his wife’s grandfather’s stuff and he then wrote me about a paragraph about the man in question. I wrote back and asked if this was “Henry” he wrote back and ask how in the world I could have know that. Long story short I now have a second photo album of custom guns and over 100 pages of correspondence between Henry and Townsend Whelen, the main subject custom guns and custom gunmakers. The family tells me there may be a lot more to come so I have my fingers crossed.
