A D.R.G.M. was valid for 6 years and number 36000 arrived on the scene in January 1895 and mid 1897 number 77000 was considered. Therefore, 60198 was issued sometime in 1896, or possibly in very early 1897, and being valid for 6 years(I don't if know if the time period began at the date or at the beginning of the next calendar year) it would have expired in 1902/1903. I would venture a guess that most of the numbers are consecutive and parallel the calendar year but I'm sure there are exceptions of course. So it may be just happenstance, but the stamp "1903" might be a date or a assembly number. More than likely it was made between 1897 and 1903. And I haven't searched for "60198" just yet.

All of the Grundig rounds that I have info on have a base diameter of 12.48mm (.491) and a rim diameter of 13.8mm(.543) case lengths of 45,52,60 and 60mm with neck diameters of 11.48mm (.451) Rim thickness was 1.20mm (.0472) The 7,62 x 54R rim at 1.60mm (.063) would need to made thinner and the case blown out to straight taper(?). A better choice of brass to use for cartridge forming might be the 45-90 basic brass and turning the rim to proper thickness. The proof mark of 3 gGBP over Stmg is for 3 grams (46.29 grains) of powder with a steel jacketed bullet. Given the above I would agree that what ever the rifle barrel is chambered for it is very likely to be one of the Grundig proprietary cartridges but a chamber cast is definitly in order on this one. Dear Geno,
Thank You for the wonderful photos
You are right. The gauge 72/68 means a plug with giameter 0.400.
But it is very important to understand the next things:
1-st - it is the largest of the plugs that would fit in the bore.
2-nd - increment between plugs is 0.010 inc
3-rd - the measurement had been done before the rifling (!)

So, the 72/68 means that diameter was approx. from 10.16 (0.400) to 10.42 (0.410) before rifling.

I am sure this barrel is for 10.75 Grundig.
I wiil try to add an image of 10.75x65R Grundig cartridge a little later

I have send a P.M. for You. Have You received it?

No, it doesn't work at least for me.
Are you that guy from nitroexpress.com who can't find right ammo for your drilling? If yes, I wanted to tell you, that D of bullet for such rifling as you have usually is slightly larger, than D1, D2 etc of such bore. Listen to experts what thay said.
I got the same type of rifling on my .577 Express.

Thank's for explanation re. Grundig, I think we know it, but the problem is the guy from Canada who asked me to help him to determ right caliber disappeared and didn't make chamber casting. Without it all talking about it is just talking

Dear Geno,
TankYou very much.
Realy I had a small discussion on Nitroexpress forum.
My problem is more teoretical than practical.

In practis, take a 30R Blaser case, make fireforming and trimming.
It will be suetable as for 11x65R as for 1075x65R.

A little more interesting is question about bullets diameters.

I believe Slonus found this tid-bit of info which is very insightful as to the sourcing, especially Sauer:

from http://www.jagdwaffensammler.de/index.php?id=12

And apparently circa WWI Max Gründig and Hugo Gründig were the owners. It is here that I am most curious if the guild allowed a widow and sons to continue marketing with titles such as Hofbüchsenmacher, etc.

I'm confident that a "CS" stamp as found on a tube is for the craftsman Caspar Schlegelmilch. I've seen it on German target arms as well. From the 1840s onward Caspar Schlegelmilch was a master tube maker along with Heinrich Schlegelmilch being a borer. Then during WWI Caspar Schlegelmilch is listed as a master/specialist barrel maker. So I'd say there were a couple of generations of Caspar Schlegelmilch. Now Carl Stiegele has "CS" but I think he was more of a firearms merchant and peddled the Vertikalblock Verschluss Heeren action: http://www.google.com/patents?id=BRtCAAA...p;q&f=false
