I have a remington sxs that is at least in fair condition I am not sure about that. It is a 12 gauge was told by remington once when I inquired about the gun they said they stopped making them in the early 1900's. I also have a German 16 gauge I think in about the same condition. Can anybody help me on this?

Welcome Stan, plenty of help around here. What do you want to know? Tell us some more about the guns or better yet post some pictures and the experts'll tell you whatever you'd like to know about your guns. What they're worth is tough without seeing ther gun or very detailed pictures because value revolves around condition...Geo

If hammerless, it is likely your Remington SxS is either a "Model 1894" or a "Model 1900". Both are very similar.

They are sound guns, but not collectorsitems unlesshigher grade models with factory engraving and fancy wood. Depending upon condition, it might be worth anywhere from $200 to $1,000. You said yours is in fair condition, so probably on the lower end of these numbers. The action would have originally been case-colored.

Let us know the gauge, barrel length, serial #, % of remaining finish, etc. and a picture would help.

We can tell you from the serial number that your gun is a Remington Model 1900 from about mid-1905. Model 1894 serial numbers are in the 100000 range and Model 1900s are in the 300000 range.

Remington Model 1900s are a simplified, cheaper, version of the Model 1894, built on the same patents -- No. 528,507 and No. 528,508 both granted Oct. 30, 1894. The Model 1900s were all K-Grades, with an E added to the designation if the gun had ejectors and D if it had Damascus barrels -- K-, KE-, KD-, or KED-Grades. The K- and KE-Grades had Remington Steel barrels. The Model 1900s had a snap-on/off forearm and their serial numbers were in the 300,000 range, often preceded with a stock letter Q.

Factory original Model 1900 12-gauges with 26-inch barrels are pretty scarce, if they exist at all. I just looked thru all the Model 1900 period Remington Catalogues in my collection, and from 1901 thru 1908 the only barrel lengths offered were 28-, 30-, and 32-inch in both 12-and 16-gauges, and after the 1904-5 catalogue the 32-inch length is no longer offered in 16-gauge. The 1908-09 and the 1909 catalogues do offer 26-inch barrels on the Model 1900 K- and KE-Grades with the Remington Steel barrels, but still list only 28-, 30- and 32-inch in the Damascus barrel KD- and KED-Grades.
