A friend gave me a pair of carl ziess 7x50 binoculars that had belonged to her father. Looked through them this evening and saw a whole new world. I think they were built before ww2. Something else to get tangled up in. I collect and restore old model airplane engines. Have a 1960 BMW motorcycle. Various guns. and few katana swords. Now I think these old binoculars are neat. When we built this house my desire for a gatling gun turned into a comercial zero turn lawn mower. Wise choice the way amunition went. I couldn't imagine feeding a gatling. Lawn mower earns it's keep.

Fine old optics can be addicting. I seem to have become an unwitting collector of microscopes. Honest,I only bought one for the office. Just one nice old Ziess. About 6 scopes ago. I don't dare pick up old binoculars or surveying instruments.

What makes a model airplane engine collectible. I have an Enya 09 and a K&B Stallion .35 , any real value?

Most of what i have collected are the older ignition and diesel engines mostly before 1948. best way to find a value is on Ebay Lots of them there. Usualy some one has to die for some to become available. There are a lot of historical and low production engines not for sale otherwise. Quality holds its value like guns but rarity also drives the prices up. I've been building models since in grade school 1940s. Last count 485 complete runable engines.

In the 1940s someone was offering a 5 cylinder model radial, I was fascinated but could not afford anything like it. tomc, do you have one?

Now I remember the engines you are referring to. I built models when I was a teenager in the late 1960's. I remember saving enough money to go to the local hobby shop and buy that ENYA for a free flight plane. I used to get Model Airplane News and saw articles about the old engines with ignition.

I also remember drooling over the radio control setups for the then unheard of cost of $500.00, servos extra. I imagine they are cheaper than that today by far.

I've had a box of stuff hanging around for years now including a NIB Sterling P38 Lockheed kit that is a duplicate of one I built many years ago. Maybe someday when I run out of gun projects I'll fly again.
