Unfortunatly not much for sale, battle, but I saw a few in French ads, but pretty much expensive, as an example grade 0 in fair condition 2,800 Euros.

There was an interesting article in the Double Gun Journal, Volume 17 issue 4 (Winter 2006) titled Manufacture Francaise's Masterpiece: The "Ideal" Shotgun. It was written by Martin Godio. It has some photos of the highest grade Ideal, the Perfection. That model doesn't have a grade number. Beautiful gun with what looks like drop points on the sides of the action.
Double Gun Journal Volume 12 issue 3 has an article titled The History of the Shotgun: A French Revolution by Gary Murphy. There is a photo of a pair of Ideals, one with Lunette trigger guards. That one has the safeties as an integral part of the triggers rather than as a slide that locks the triggers. Has anyone seen one of those? I too would love to find a double rifle Ideal. A two barrel set, 20 gauge/7x57R would be my "Ideal" combo.
Would anyone know what type of leather was used for the retractable sling? The leather was badly frayed when I got mine so of course it slipped out of my fingers the first time I pulled it out. It retracted with enough force to rip the metal end off. The leather is in pretty bad shape and I would like to replace it. To be expected with 111 year old leather I guess.

That is a beauty, Sliver. Unfortunately, if the hassle getting it into Canada wasn't enough to prevent me from picking it up the $12,500 price tag would.

One thing about Manufrance: They were about as effusive as Ansley Fox in praising their own gun. "The best of all shotguns!" I have another Manufrance ad, I think post-WWII, which describes the Ideal as "the most perfect and the most beautiful shotgun in the world". They obviously did not believe in understatement.
Anyone ever use one with "lunettes" triggers while hunting? Looks to me as if switching from one trigger to the other might not be as easy as on a standard DT sxs.

Here you can take a look at the top of the line "Idéal Perfection" models appearing in a Manufrance catalogue from 1910. Note the English Type with sideplates: Manufrance 1910 Catalogue JC

George, I think the "Francophiles" should drop 2.5 large on that mikeej99 number up above and leave the cheap one to me. I mean do you guys really want a 1/2" of castoff? Could be the break lever spring is broken also as the lever return is not automatic (description). Oh well, the more the merrier (and dearer).
