Mine ain't nothing special, but if i had to cut the herd, this would be one the last 5 to go maybe 3. Boy.....i'd hate to make that decision!
Plus, it's the only gun i bought from ole klunkmeister himself. What a day that was, i'll never forget.

Hello Battle,

Those barrels rule!!! They take First Prize.
Are they 16 bore? I'll swap you them.

Congratulations.

JayCee.....
Yes it is a 16. The barrels are nice, i like the full length beveled rib with the gold inlay.
When i bought it from Russ, the retractable sling end was missing, the part that hooked to the barrels. A couple years ago at the big Louisville show, i found a guy who had some take off sxs barrels. A few where French and the part that i need was on one set of the barrels. I gladly paid the man five bucks for the part. To me that was a million to one find.

Perfect combination for me, Battle. Damascus barrels, round action and a sidelever. Well, the underlever will do...

Hello Battle,

No swapping then?

Mine was also missing most of the sling and the end part. The person that touched up the checkering had a length of sling with the part attached, so I also got very lucky.

Here is a photo of a Manufrance Ideal advertisement from a French hunting magazine, Le Chasseur Francais, dated October 1925. It shows the four grades of the Ideal available at the time and describes each - in French. I realize that it is too small to read the fine print but if you will email me (research 'at' griffinhowe.com)I'll send you a readable copy by email. I'm surprised by the amount of interest in this shotgun. I have a Model 302 Ideal and thought that my fondness for the gun was somewhat unusual.

Thank's Bob, I can read the same in 1910 catalog. I believe magazine page too small to show all Ideal grades produced at the time (probably shown best sellers). But I saw very high grade Ideal and believe it was grade 9, don't remember letters.

Satinsky in his book in 1926 described allmost all grades shown in 1910 cathalog and said highest grade Ideals were worth F6,000!
Also he mentioned grades 14 E/PF, 15/ECA and 16/EPA. Ideal's were most popular French gun in Russia according to him.
Interesting he devoted to Ideal allmost one page and said just few words about Darne

You can read Satinsky about French guns here (with translator)

I'd love to have a double rifle in the Ideal!
Are there big numbers of Ideals available in Europe/France?
