I have an early 90s 20g 201E that I'd like to start hunting with more. Unfortunately, I've grown accustomed to the automatic safeties on my side by sides and have some concerns about my ability to adapt to a different system in hunting conditions with partners.
My questions: how difficult is it to convert a Merkel O/U safety from manual to automatic? and does anyone on the board know of a gunsmith who has experience doing this kind of job? Rough estimates on cost?
I know it can be done because I was told so by the late Alfred Galifent. Sadly, now that he's gone, I've been scouring the web and searching the archives here but didn't come up with much. Hopefully the esteemed double gunshop brain trust can help.
