Yes, you must put sealant on the ends as soon as you can,if you must let the logs set awhile cut off a couple of inches and put hot paraffin on with a brush or whatever sealant you are using. I have found that hot paraffin,I heat it on a small grill,is sucked right in to the end grain on fresh cut logs. This will last a long time. I have sealed flitches that are over 20 years old and the sealant is still doing its job.Put sealant on all figure also or it will check also. This is easy to take off once the blanks are to be used.When you sticker the wood be sure that the pile is level and at least 18 inches off the ground. Cover the top so the ends are protected from direct sunlight also. You can't spend too much time properly making a level,protected and stickered lumber pile.Put your best wood in the middle of the stickered stack and make sure the stickers are lined up with each other from level to level.
