Well, the French call it "canardouse", from the French for "duck". They are indeed made this was. The point is, anything bigger than 12 gauge has been illegal in France for about 100 years, so that's the answer. It's supposed to work like this: you're in a blind, and if a real big flock - big enough to warrant a punt gun - lands in the decoys, you pull the rear trigger, and use the gun as a 8-gauge single shot equivalent. Or you can use it like a normal duck gun, your choice. Makes sense, sort of, if you're the kind of person who looks at those old 8 and 4 bores with awe.
