I guess CSMC must have swept out the shop in prep for getting underway with the A-10, and stumbled over my RBL-12! It arrived at my local FFL this week. With the choices offered for the RBL-12 it took me until 4 December 2008, to place an order. My other RBLs have all been straight grip 4x stocks, with double triggers and slim forearms. For the RBL-12 I finally decided on the 32-inch barrels with the vent rib and a beavertail forearm. My initial reaction is the very low vent rib and the fairly short beavertail were wastes of money for me. This gun weighs in at 8 pounds 14.7 ounces. That is 7 ounces lighter then the Model 3200 tube set I shot for 12 NSSA Skeet seasons (1977 thru 88), but it seems really heavy now. Saturday it was very windy at the gun club and I could not make corrections once those heavy barrels were moving in a given direction. Today in still air things were much better, even in a round of doubles at all stations.

Really nice looking! Stock is great, but I do agree somewhat on the beavertail forearm; however, if you ever get into some really heated shooting it will pay off!

It is a bit too short. I found the index finger and thumb of my left hand land on the barrels in front of it while shooting this weekend. Not as much hand on the barrels as with a slim forearm, but I imagine if the barrels were hot I could adjust my hold a bit. To my eye it is one of the nicer looking beavertails.

The checkering on the new gun looks very nice. Good checkering is virtually transparent to the figure in good wood. They make a beautiul pair. The other gun would benefit from a recut...there seems to be some figure hiding in the wrist that could be brought out.

Here's a before/after on a RBL forend...

Looks really nice. You should enjoy it. And I think the BTFE will pay off nice summer at the skeet range when those barrels get hot. Good luck.

Good looking guns. I agree on the weight. Too much for me these days. As I get older, I like lighter guns in the field and at the range. My preferred weight for a long barreled 12 ga sporting gun is now 7 3/4 lbs as opposed to 1/2 lb heavier 5-6 yrs ago.

I also got the 32" BTFE with straight stock for my RBL. Nice gun with the exception of the "engraving". With the case color on mine, the "engraving" is invisible. Just as well I guess but disappointing.

Is that a recut or a real cut checkering job? I have an early fine checkering RBL and it is just bad.

Nice looking guns Researcher. I ordered my RBL12 at Vintagers. 32", BTFE,pistol grip and double triggers. Lou said it would be ready in 5 weeks. That would put it early November. I remembered all the threads about how much longer it took after the promised date to receive their guns. I didn't say any thing to him but I thought it was optimistic. But if they pull through it will be in time for duck season. I have not seen it in print and I forgot to ask. Does anyone know how long the forcing cones are in these 12's? Another thing I noticed while looking at the RBL's at vintagers was that they are putting 2 different blue jobs on these guns. One is a high polish and the other is a more satin finnish. He said they are not giving a choice as to how they are blued. I hope mine comes with that satin finnish. It looks nicer and is better for the field. What does your blueing look like on yours Researcher?
