I am considering purchasing a 10 bore hammer gun and shooting 12 gauge shells in it at clays. I have absolutely no knowledge of these devices and would appreciate any and all help in finding the best ones to buy. Thanks

Buy Gaugemate Gold and do not overlubricate them. Advantage is that they stay in the chamber and extract the hulls reliably. They work well in my 10 gauge Darne and in my 10 gauge Lefever C thumbpush.

I also bought the Gaugemates. Use brass based 12 gauge ammunition.

I have the Browning little skeeters for 12ga in 20ga. I think they are great. Just make sure they are the same chamber length as your hammer gun. I know they will not fit in my 12ga Belgian hammer gun that is not 2 3/4". I am not sure if they can be trimmed down to fit the chamber.

I am using the Gaugemate Golds in a Bate 10-bore and they work fine. I did get a bit surprised last Sunday at a fun shoot when I shot the Bate better than I shot my BT-100 or my Parker SBT.

I have never used a set of 10-ga. to 12-ga. Chambermates, but I do have a set of 28-ga. to .410 Chambermates that have never failed. They stay in the chamber and eject the spent hulls reliably--what more could one ask for?

And thank you,Rocketman, I just finished reading that 6 page thread,and while I didn't understand half of it,or damn near all of it,I'm very confident in these little inserts. Only,I am a big fan of 7625, so I guess I'll have to stay away from the real low pressure loads,say below 6K,and I'll be alright.

Justin, I have used Remington STS (standard load) in both Gaugemates and Chambermates for my 10 gauge Lefevers. It works fine. My 10 gauge guns have barrels like bank vaults and I am not worried about shooting the STS ammo in them. For one thing, when you are shooting 12 or 20 gauge shells in a 10 gauge diameter barrel, you are reducing pressure. You might have your barrels checked. If they are as beefy as mine, you might consider the STS. I have heard that Winchester AA also works fine. I have not tried brass shells, but other commercial ammo, such as Remington Club loads, Rio or Estate target loads and Bismuth Cartridge Co. duck loads have not worked. The shells have swollen and won't extract. Pain in the neck.

I've posted this pic numerous times...I'd just buy the cheaper steel ones and grind the lip.
