The public safety issue is critical but often silly and draconian and the California bill appears to be a symptom of it. Canada's gun registry is another.
What to do when doctors are prescribing pleasurable drugs willy-nilly for self-gratification including sexual favours? We hear of the Patriot Act providing access to medical records, library and credit card transactions.
I believe Canada requires family doctors to report anything that would disqualify patients from holding their flying licenses. I don't think there's anything the feds don't know about me, except where I put my rabbit snares.
Or about our bishop, who recently negotiated a $15 million sex abuse settlement in the diocese, had his laptop perused by our border security and was charged last week with importing child pornography.
All---good and bad--- generated by unwarranted fear, a need to be "safe" when it has never been a part of our existence.
