I remember similar legislation that came into being all over the U.S. after Kennedy was assassinated. When they banned mail-ordering guns they also added a requirement concerning the purchasing of some ammunition. I was a kid and my dad owned a big country general store where he sold everything from mule collars to Royal Crown hair pomade and Hoyt's Cologne. But, what he sold that most interested me was ammunition. He stocked .410 through 12 gauge, and .22 cartridges. I remember well him having to log in the name and some "pertinent" information on everyone who bought .22 ammo, or any pistol or rifle cartridges. This lasted only a few years, as I recall, then went away.
Sad news about this new legislation, but not surprising at all, considering the source.
