The first time the subject of how to close a SxS came up, I made a comment about not dropping it open, unsupported, and not flipping or slamming it closed, like some "cowboy idiot" or "idiot cowboy". I was jumped on hard by someone who was offended that I could suggest that a cowboy could be an idiot or vice-versa. I will give the "cowboy Action" shooter groups credit for one thing: they are the most safety conscious groups I have ever seen. Trap and skeet shooters could learn a lot about safety from them. As to why they want/need short barrels, the targets they shoot with their shotguns are so close a 32" barrel would put the muzzle out past most of their targets.
