Have an old shotgun and can't find much about it. All I've found is it is a predecessor to the Darne. Nice little sxs Roll and block breech single trigger automatic ejector 16ga s/n 43xxx. 26 in barrels don't see any more markings leave it to the French to make matters hard.

Charlin came after Darne, not the other way around. Your description is far harder to analyze then anything with a sliding breech that ever came out of France, which, I am assuming is what you are trying to find information about. Try again. A photo or two would help the process along greatly, as would a better description of what you have. A serial number is mostly useless. Best, Ted

According to an article I have, Charlin closed their doors in 1968. Not sure when they started; Ted may know.
About the only thing "hard", where French guns are concerned, is dating them accurately. They were as good as anyone else when it came to proofmarks (better than quite a few) and other information, and some French doubles include short novels written on the barrel flats! But unlike the Spanish, Belgians, Italians, Germans etc, they did not use date codes.

You'll have to remove the barrels to find the proofmarks. They'll be on the flats (the underside of the chambers).

I can't see his photos, so I remain clueless as to what the hell he has.
They DID produce boxlocks and sidelocks, in addition to the unique sliding breech gun, which has little to nothing in common with any model of Darne.
Rather than give him a tutorial on a gun I can't see, I'll wait for a clear photo. No sense confusing anybody. Best, Ted

to remove barrels, open the action. Push and hold the button located on the bottom of the action infront of the trigger guard. Pull the barrels back toward the action. Alight tap on the buttplate can help.

Photos are dark, as stated, but in focus. No rolling, falling, dropping, swinging blocks in evidence but it's a Charlin slider, Charlin between the ears of the toggle, bit of engraving of pinwheels in negative space circles surrounded by other pinwheels or stylized suns with flames, or something and a few leaves on the fences.
Mike, the gun in the photos has two triggers. Didn't surprise me on a Charln but did surprise me after reading your description and exprecting only one.
You'll still want to go looking for absurd levels of French proof (the multiple palms) on the barrel flats. To disengage barrels, open the breech by sliding breech block to rear, depress the round-head button on the bottom (I can't even remember precisely where it is, bit aft of what passes for a forend on these I think). While depressing button, slide barrels to rear and lift out. The "forend" will stay with action. Reverse to reassemble except that you won't need to operate the pushbutton to release a latch.
