Oooooh, Jagermeister!! You certainly have good taste. Probably the last gun I would ever turn loose is my 50s Model 37, 20 gauge, solid rib that I have had since the middle 60s when I was just out of high school. Great gun, huh? I used mine for years on squirrels and rabbits. And R. Overberg, one of the SxS I have always wanted was a Beretta. But, to answer the question, I consider myself both. I have collected guns that I would never shoot. But I love shooting my 21s, which a few years ago, I would have never thought of doing. But in the past year since I have been shooting mostly skeet and a little sporting clays, I have been breaking them out and trying them out. What the heck. Leaving them sit just isn't fun any more. Good luck.

I have a foot in both camps. I tend to accumulate as I can't resist a bargin if one crops up and then every so often I clear a few out of the accumulation in order to collect something else. I tend to hang on to a hard core of guns that are in the collection although all are there for shooting. Some guns are then a means to an end and that is how the collection has grown over the last thirty odd years. Lagopus.....

Ted isn't far from my experience. It's mostly about aging and maturity. We change through aging. Women and guns, hunting and sexual activity, change from ravenous activity to becoming more involved with the loving care of one. Letting go of gals and guns doesn't change the memories!

An accumulation of guns is much more useful than a collection of ex-girlfriends. Best, Ted Safer, too.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

I have been an accumulator, but that is changing. I have no idea why I latched on to Bakers, but they are the only cartridge sxs shotguns I have. I do have my favorites of these though, so I am thinning the accumulation. I will soon be doing the same thing with the muzzleloading sxs's that I don't shoot. How many do I need, that I don't shoot?

My original intent was just to 'collect' a field grade model of the American classics in Smith, Lefever, Parker, Ithaca and Fox. Then I found out there were SAC's, Bakers, Remmies, Winchester, of course, and all the others. I'll keep shooting them all and upgrading when I can till I can't anymore...Geo

Greg, perhaps you should define what you believe to be the difference, since the two words are synonyms. I have collected an accumulation of shotguns, or perhaps I accumulated a collection, but I do shoot them all (so which am I, collector or accumulator ?). Joe

I suspect there is an underlining feeling that accumulators are less concerned with preserving original condition than collectors are. At least that's how I break them out.
Out there doing it best I can.

An accumulator is someone who picks up whatever happens to be available over time, usually when it is a good deal. A collector targets certain guns by make, caliber, use, condition, etc. then focuses his efforts on acquiring them.
