If I handload and keep the pressures at circa 8200 CUP (should be psi for PE sensor or LUP; CUP is used for rifle level pressures), it seems like this would be a practical load to use on occasion. I think it will be fine, pressure wise, in a Stirlingworth action. However, I be sure the stock head was in good shape (for example, not oli soak), and solidly bedded to absorb the recoil without distress.

I am afraid to ask about the customizing, tut, but just like staring at the car crash; what are you having done?

It will be an interesting project that has been dubbed as the "Abby gun" by me. Abby is my 9 year old Golden retriever that has hunted from Montana to Maine. Older and slower now, and probably could have been a field trial champion (her father was for many years). Anyway, some of the most fun we've had is hunting roosters in ND, Mont and Kansas. Anyway, I located a very good condition Fox SW Ejector gun with 28" number 3 barrels that is being converted with the help of quite a few folks. Also located a nice stick of California English as restocking is part of the deal. The action will be reshaped with a lot of Burt Becker (rebates and Fancy back), beaded fences. Will look a lot like Stephen Dodd Hughes custom foxes he did some time ago, with a bit of Dewey Vicknair's custom thrown in. Action work will be done by PGS Services located in Pa. Barrel work (Chokes and forcing cones) will be done by Mike Orlen. Ken Hurst has agreed to do the engraving. When all is said and done it will be a fitting tribute to the best 4 legged hunting companion I've ever had. I'm hopeful (good lord willing) that it will be ready for next Sept for the Virginia Dove opener. That said, Abby isn't resting and enjoying her retirement. She and I (and a new 8 month old Golden) will be headed to Maine for a week of bird hunting starting this October. I'll post a few pictures as time moves on.
