Yes, many of us, if not the majority--I supect read SSM.
I especially like the articles by Doug Tate as to my mind he really researches the various guns and gunmakers he writes about.
Since Vic Venters has been assigned the role of writing about gunmaking and gunmakers the gunmaking articles from SSM are of greater interest to me and much focused upon the technical details with an excellent mix of personal details of the craftsmen as well as the subject. The detail that he enters into in articles such as the two part about color case hardening with Brown's was excellent. The last artice about Hollands method of ensuring concentric boring and finishing of barrel tubes, compliments (with more detail) the Holland & Holland Video which shows the striking and measuring of barrel tubes.
SSM would do well to think about some articles about the double gun gunmaking craft and craftsmen.
I greatly miss the articles written by Crosschisel and McIntosh in SSM about gun repair and wish the two of them would do another series of articles. Those series of articles by David and Michael plus the articles by Vic Venter on gunmaking have been the best produced by SSM related to gun repair and gunmaking.
What say ye: David T.?
In general, SSM is gaining my respect and interest. With the economy like it is, it must be tough to produce a magazine like SSM and DGJ,and have enough advertisers to make a profit. Hats off to both of them
