I don't see the problem. A newbie should not be buying a $3200 shotgun without help. I don't see a thing wrong with the restock except the dimensions. The wood is wonderful and the case color is not bad either.

A newbie should not be buying a $3200 shotgun without help. But they do and they will and some will say that they deserve what they get but I'm sure that in our own stages of newbieism (is that a word?) we wish we could have depended on truth in advertising, no? Unfortunately it's so often 'all about the buck'.

It's not a restored gun - to restore something implies it has been returned to its original state. Everything about the wood on the gun is wrong. The simple fact that it is missing the checkering speaks volumes as to the care that went into the 'restoration'.
As for the wood being 'wonderful', I suppose it was a nice enough blank at one time - but given the strange shape that they carved out of it it no longer is such great wood.

Fellers, get off Cabela's back. The people who work in the Gun Libraries are not necessarily experts in the field of doubles that members of this board are. They have to take on all comers, be it pistols, rifles, or shotguns. Old or new. There are hundreds of specialized collecting fields that can see mistakes made by the libraries from time to time. Yes, very often their offerings are overpriced but I also see some underpriced. One top notch offering of theirs that many cannot provide is an unquestioned return policy. And their money is good. Just be thankful we have them!

I didn't take this thread as a wholesale indictment of Cabela's. Just a discussion of a gun listing that is shaky.

I go along with Joe Wood and Eightbore, for one thing where can you find a 20 ga. VH for that money. The case colors from what I see aren't bad, the barrels looked okay, so the wood has to be checkered and possibly shaped some, so what. If the checkering was done that gun would be in the 5k range for a 20 ga.
Their new policy is within 30 days any problems they get it fixed or find you a replacement, who else has that?
Plus where can you look at any other site and see so many different sxs's. As said their prices on some things are high, but it is like used cars, there is an axx for every seat, and not unlike some of the auction sites where seller's guns have been there for months and months.

Here's a better one for a lot less money: http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbt...ge=2#Post152005The "...brilliant case colors..." on Cabela's gun look torched to me. I bet the bbls have been hot blued, too. The stock is ruined. Checkering ain't gonna save it. If an ignorant gun buyer bought it, learned about all its problems right away, and then tried to return the gun within the 30-day period, would they give him his money back? I don't know. He hasn't discovered a "problem" with the gun - not like a crack, break, or something mechanical that isn't working. Cabela's is not misrepresenting the gun, either - at least not online. They are being slick, though. OWD
