Destry: Take a look at Gavin Gardiner's auction catalogue for 24 August: http://www.gavingardiner.com Lot No. 139 and see if that reminds you of anyone. (Please accept this as a compliment)

I'm sorry, but they didn't use the picture of Lord Ripon in the online catalogue. I have the printed one. If you send me your e-mail or snail mail address I'll send you a copy.

Best Regards, George

Me, too. Are you laughing at the written description of seven dead birds in the air at once, or something else?

My record on dead in the air is exactly two birds and the way I shoot I'd imagine it's going to stay that way for awhile.

Destry: there was a picture in the printed catalogue of Lord Ripon and to my eye it looked a lot like yourself.

Best Regards, George

I'll have to look up a picture of the old boy, don't know as I ever saw one before.

If Tom Knapp,Tim Bradley or Tim Flanagan can barely break seven thrown clay birds in the air with a fast cycling afromatic I find it a bit of a stretch to believe that Ripon could kill seven birds, while changing guns with his loader three times, before one hit the ground. I know the above shooters have broken more clays than that in succession, but even seven is quite a feat.

Two is my record too, Destry. Latest was closing day of last waterfowl season when a flock of geese came over us just as the woodies quit flying into a beaver pond (deadening, if you're an Arkansan). As I always use a two barreled gun on the dove field, it will take some doin' to get three, eh?

The birds had been glued together prior to his shooting at them. When you're English, sometimes things just happen that way.

Just curious here lads- first, I have seen Market Hunter shoot- Tower thrown pigeons at Chuck Connell's Club in MI- haven't seen him at box birds (yet) but have seen fotos. Two dead "A pair in the air" Yes he did- a 12 DHE Parker 32", whilst I shot my 2E 12 Smith with 32" ventilated ribbed barrels next to him.

Now, I have never shot abroad so I can't speak for driven birds in LimeyLand- But I have shot a fair number of tower/silo released birds at private hunt clubs here in MI- FruitRidge, Chuck Connells, Wycamp Lake and the now defunct Bourbon Barrel-

7 pheasants airborne and in killing range for the chokes and paper shells of Lord Ripon's Day- hammer ejector Purdey 12 bores and two loaders/gun passers over to His Lordship-etc-- First question comes to my mind- were they mature Roosters or younger hens- Aerodynamics will tell us the smaller hens will move faster than the larger Roosters-

I can't say-I have made a few true doubles on ducks in my over 50 years of serious gunning, once dropped one Canada stone dead in the river and saw another go down from the same shot, and my pal's Chessie "Festus" retrieved it-

I shoot a lot almost year around, crows, starlings, barn pigeons with both my 12 gauge M12's and my 12 gauge Smith doubles- If I practiced with loaders, maybe I could get the flow and feel of that, but seven dead birds from a trio of ejector doubles in that time frame-I wasn't there, can't say yea or nay- But that is some kinda gun handling and shooting form indeed.
