Try polishing the surface. Lots of products to do that, many available at auto body supplies. Could also be moisture under the surface film if the wood is absorbing moisture from the air. Might be getting in through the head of the stock or the butt if those surfaces are not sealed. How's the humidity in your area? Cloudiness might clear up when the weather dries out.
If the side that's getting cloudy is the side you put your cheek on, could be caused by cologne, after shave, or bug spray.

Try 3M Imperial Hand Glaze. It is the final compound used after repainting a care to remove swirl marks and provide a high gloss. It contains no silicone and is clear coat safe. It is beige in color and available at most aut paint supply shops. I've used it for years on old Bear (archery) bows to make them look like new as well a poly finished gun stocks and, of course, our vehicles.
Phil
P.S. when you finish the stock glaze your car and be the envy of your neighbors. :-)

Does the cloudiness show up in pics? Can you post some? What kind of gun and what vintage?

Its new no collectors value. It is so slight that I'm not sure it would show up in a picture. It's just starting to bug me. The other side of the stock is fine no milk film whatsoever.

treblig,
I have many years of experience with the 3M glaze and so am confident recommending it. I suppose you could try rottenstone but I consider this more "aggressive" and would prefer to work up to it if the glaze doesn't clear it up. You may need the glaze anyway to get the gloss back up after the rottenstone. Before doing anything you could try shining a UV lamp on the stock to see if that clears it up???
Best of luck, Phil

If you can't find the 3M product, look for Meguiar's No. 9 swirl remover. It is silicone-free and works well by hand. Meguiar's is now owned by 3M (I think).

Is it underneath the surface? If it is, buffing or polishing won't help.
