I don't think fitting a gun pad is off topic...... So, where was I? Oh yeah. I know a jig would be easier but I have an easy way that I use. (Cheaper, too). I have a large belt sander. I mount it at a 45* angle in my vise using two pieces of wood to protect the teeth in the vise from digging into the sander. I mount the pad on the gun and instead of scribing the bottom of the pad, I use a regular pencil to scribe it with. A wide pencil line around the bottom (don't sharpen the pencil) works better because it gives you more room for the fine work. Plus the pencil line doesn't wear off very easily. I lock the trigger into the ON position a start sanding away. (If I can't reach the button after it is in the vise, I just lock the trigger down and turn it on by plugging it in). I put up a sheet against the wall to catch the rubber shavings. I keep an eye on the toe angle and when I get close I stop and do the rest by hand with a coarse sandpaper and a wooden block. Doing this causes the rubber to come out in rough chunks, so I have a small amount of transmission fluid nearby. I rub it on with my finger and as I sand, it keeps the pad smooth. As I get really close I go to a finer sandpaper until it fits perfectly. I keep putting it on the gun and taking it off to see how I am doing. Works for me. Just make sure you unlock the trigger on the sander after you are done. You don't want to plug it in the next time you use it and have it shoot across the table onto the floor. I don't know who would be dumb enough to do that.
