This Purdey 10 gauge at Cabelas would make a pretty good sporting gun. It doesn't say it in the ad but it is 7-1/2 pounds.
Shame some dumba$$ lengthened the chambers to 3-1/2"

Would be fitting if guy that had chambers lengthened to 3 1/2 actually shot it with 3 1/2 inch factory loads.

Eightbore, You got the tens, should be a site dedicated to these big boys. The Iver Johnson is original. It's stunning the quality of workmanship and handling feel of this one holer. The solid rib is intergal with the barrel and the matte treatment is really functional as well a aesthetic. Shooting it is the real deal. Beautiful balance at 6 lbs. Randy

Hello Rem40X, I made up my own load so I hessitate to give it out.
I could find no other light data, so I made up my own. I do use a Remington power piston and Rem *57 primers in the old Remington 10 gauge 2 7/8 hulls or sometimes I trim 3 1/2 hulls to 2 7/8. I load with a MEC 10 gauge single stage loader. Enjoy the day Mike

RHD45, you are probably confusing A.P.Curtis with Captain P.A.Curtis. A.P.Curtis wrote about technical matters but very little about his own guns or his days with the big double gun companies. As Researcher implies, the ten gauge bird gun built for a Curtis was probably the Ithaca built for the Captain. Parker built dozens, maybe hundreds, of light, short barrel ten gauge bird guns. Most were probably ordered by duck shooters, but some seem to be originally choked like a classic bird gun. I have seen original 7 1/2 pound Parker tens with 27" and 28" barrels as well as at least one 7 1/2 pound 28" fluid steel Lefever ten gauge. The Brits often send ten gauge Damascus guns to the proof house to be proved for 3 1/2" shells. I have seen several that are stamped with marks indicating successful proof with these shells. My 6 1/4 pound ten gauge Krupp barrelled Sauer has quite acceptable wall thickness and would probably pass British proof for 3 1/2" tens. I once accidentally fired a Super-X 1 5/8 ounce load in this gun and will never make that mistake again.

Bill, is your Sauer chambered for 3 1/2" shells? I suspect it suffered no ill-effects from the Super-X loads either.

I have never measured the chambers. I assume they are 2 7/8. They aren't mentioned in the Prussian proof marks. I don't know what the standard was in that country. A 3 1/2 inch ten couldn't blow up that gun. The wall thickness is quite good and it has double underlugs and very well fitted doll's head extension. I have used the gun in the grouse woods, and, at 6 1/4 pounds, it is a pleasure to carry. My companions think I am Superman to carry a ten all day without complaint. It has 26" barrels, the orignal (looking) leather covered Silvers pad, and intelligent stock dimensions.

Mike, dang it, now you have me interested in that Purdy 10...Got a lady from washington state coming to look at that lil black and white Appy stud colt, priced at 15k. Maybe if Diane aint paying attention? Dont you think it was chambered 3 1/2 when built? I wonder if it was reproofed?

I'm sure it was reproofed. Only a Brit would be dumb enough to bore a Purdey to 3 1/2 when he could buy a Spanish ten for a couple of hundred pounds.
