Not many ithaca/SKB 20's around for $500. The price point dictates the nitro or the stevens 311, but the nitro is a lot more gun. There've been two real good suggestions made here so far; get a 12ga instead of a 20, and save up more money for a higher quality gun you can be proud of...Geo

Pretty much what Lion Country Supply is selling for $1,395.00.

It would need a little cleaning and I'd remove the sling swivels but should be a good gun.

How do you pronounce Ugartechea???

I was told that Ugartechea is pronounced "oo-gar-tek-ee-ah". I wouldn't be at all surprised if that is incorrect. I also wouldn't be surprised if some who have posted threads here would have difficulty pronouncing Fox.

That would certainly be the case on the South side of Chicago.
I can assure you that a "Ho" in that location is not a tool used to till veggies in a garden.

I'll humbly submit that the guns in the $1500-$2000 price range aren't more gun than a Nitro Special, Western Arms Long Range Double or an early 311.

A double isn't for everybody. Spend more money when you decide a double is for you. One of the above guns will teach you pretty quickly how a double will work for you. They sell readily, and make good backup, loaners, and rainy day guns. If the chokes are opened, steel shot is no big deal, and they handle hot (pressure) cheap promo loads just fine. At $500, you don't need to worry about modifications you might like to make affecting value down the road. Or, whether the gun was made out of parts from two guns.

Mr. Cash, with all due respect, I've never seen a BSS in 12 gauge sell for over $1000, even when the numbers match. They are a mass production, polyureathane, roll pin and stamping gun, not much, if at all, elevated beyond the guns I listed above. Gun List has a few every month at around your price, or, less, and I'd guess there wouldn't be the question about what happened to the original barrels. The asking price on the 20s seem to be more, but, they sit longer, too.

It would be nice if the newbie could buy a double that it would be possible to get his money out of down the road.

I don't think your gun qualifies. I'm sure it looks and shoots nice, but, it's always going to be a tough sell.

Best,
Ted

If parts were a problem as gunut says, most of us would own 870's. I tried to call Dan Lefever the other day at the Lefever factory, to get a replacement hammer...no one answered...

Ted makes a very good observation about opening the chokes, this is a must on most of the Spanish guns. I found the ideal combo for me was leaving the left barrel at "Full" and opening the right to "I/C" or "Skeet" on any that I kept for a while. A competent Gunsmith can do this easily. It's been a while but I don't think I ever paid over $50.00 to have opened (reamed) one barrel.

Doug, the Western Field Miroku is the same gun as the Miroku-made Charles Daly--but there are a lot more Miroku Dalys out there.

Ted, at least you get checkering with all the $1500 sxs I know of. Not that the Western Long Range isn't a decent gun . . .
