David, let me speak for you using your own words and photographs.

Here I will chronicle the replacement of a gold oval in a finished stock as best I can, using photos and words of the master, David Trevallion, a/k/a crossedchisels, in a job he did for me. These words and photos were in various emails he sent to me as the job progressed. Maybe DT can chime in with details of this delicate procedure. I can testify that the end result is perfection.

Background: It seems he took issue with the gold oval existing in my rifle's stock and suggested a replacement, something I really hadn't contemplated. When the master suggests, only a fool resists. So I said "Have at it."

Here we go. The captions are above the photos:

Apply a little heat and hold the tongue just right, and the old one lifts out. Then the master prepares the new recess to receive the new gold oval.

Oversized 14k Gold Oval fitted and glued into stock..Next stage, Polish Gold and surrounding stock Match color of stock and blend in new Oil polish:





Mr Rosco Stephenson,,,,,Following are Photos of the Finished "New 14kt Yellow Gold Extra large Oval that I"ive made and Installed into your Gibbs DB Rifle. I have started rebuilding up the Stock Finish after blending the color, I had to file a fair amount from the stock on the Rt. side, but It is blending in quite well , Damm Slacum is staying tacky even after 10hrs in front of the Air conditioner.....But each coat is drying better that the one before it....
