This is an early 20th Century German sidelock drilling that I am having a few new springs and a firing pin made for. I know this is a bad picture but since my gunsmith has the piece I can't get another. I cannot identify the engraver.

ArnoldB...you got what you paid for with that first picture...maybe then some too....very well done to say the least.

Redardless of actual cost.

I trust you paid no small sum for the gun and artwork, hope you are pleased!

Dog on bottom pic shows a level of contrast and detail I have not seen before....maybe some high end Italian stuff is similar?

Top pic takes cake though, captured something there.

Looks like dog worth the chisel.

Any stories behind the faces you would care share?

Bestt,
Mark

All the pictures are great. I am amazed at the ability of the artists in being able to capture in such small spaces and in such a difficult medium the qualities that are cherished in a good dog:

Loyalty, friendship, eagerness to please, appreciation for the thrill of the hunt and satisfaction in a job well done!

To do that in ink or watercolor takes talent. To do it with a chisel on a piece of metal the size of a small postage stamp is genius.

Did you note all dogs had common tails and no one hold it upwards?

Geno:

In post-revolutionary American socialist paradise under glorious Obama administration
all former symbols of American greatness now pictured in retreat with head bowed and tail between legs.

Reeducation acheive expectations of central planning committee,
Hunting dogs now point cucumber, endive and avocado sandwiches.
