Froggie, I've done a number of these projects now and haven't encountered any particular difficulty with barrel taper so far. Apparently the taper hasn't been enough to overpower the scope's range of adjustment or the bullet's trajectory. To give you a better idea of my basis for my opinion on these projects, I've used scopes and mounts in sizes & types ranging from 2" Unertl 20X to 3/4" Weaver J2.5 so I'm fairly confident about future results.
I'm still tweaking on your FrankenBallard but it's on the back burner for now, too many honeydos! How's your Maynard project coming along?
