JC, you can't bring out what isn't there. It has a little but will never show much more than what is showing now no matter what you do to it.

The bottom stock looks to me to be a finer piece of wood.

Hi Joe,
Good eye, it belongs to a Beretta S3 EL. It should be a finer piece of wood I suppose.

MJS, I am rather intrigued by the .38-50. Can you give a few details? How fast is the twist and the bullet? How heavy is the bullet and what powder are you using? Nice rifle. Brent

Brent Brent: It is a 1 in 10" twist. I shoot a 361 grain PJ bullet designed by Dan T cast 20-1 over 54 grains of Swiss 3FG with a .060 poly wad. The wood is from a blank I purchased over 30 years ago and I purchased the action at the Greg Martin Auction in SF a couple of years ago. I have another Hepburn chambered in 38-50 and I have been shooting the 38-50 for several years now. I really like the caliber.

I started this thread but all I have is a Remington 31 TC with some fiddleback! Compare to Bill Layman's 31 TC, above. All the stocks are nice, but I think my favorites are the ones where the feathering gives the impression of a downswept wing.

Mike's stock would be a lot prettier without that stain.
