Hi,Can anyone give me some info on the SKB 400 side by side.I've looked everywhere and can't find anything on this model.Even gun value book's list it wrong as a side plated model. Thanks

Thanks for the response Patriot.Yeah I have one 12 ga.,26in.Sk&SK,pistol grip stock/gold shield,with silver frame,full fine engraving.I'm familiar with the 100 to 280 series.Are they uncommon?When were they made?How many? It's a boxlock without sideplates contrary to what gun value books say. Thanks

Eddie, Walt Snyder the Ithaca expert may have some info for you, because I'm guessing your gun was an Ithaca import. I don't know whether there's a breakdown by model on how many 400 Skeet guns were imported. (There was also a Model 400 Field gun, and I don't think many of either were imported--likely fewer Skeets than Fields. Even the less expensive Model 200 Skeet is fairly scarce.) If I recall correctly, about 60,000 SKB side by sides, total, were imported by Ithaca from the mid-60's to the mid-70's. I'd bet no more than a few hundred 400's, total.

I think the confusion on the "sideplated" part comes because in the late 80's, SKB imported some sxs under their own name, and I believe in that series--easy to tell those guns, not marked Ithaca and they have choke tubes--the 400 was a sideplated gun.

I know what you mean;

Standard Catalogue of Firearms....400E engraved false sideplatesand an English style stock. Imported prior to 1990

1996 Blue Book 400 boxlock, sst, ae, moderately engraved coin finish receiver with sideplates.
Later 400 similar to original Model 400, sst, ejectors, recoil pad Imported 1987-88 (doesn't mention sideplates.
400E similar to new Model 400, except has engraved sideplates and straight grip stock Imp. disc. 1989

Maybe this is yours: Guntrader's Guide...Model 400 skeet Similar to Model 200E skeet except higher grade with more elaborate engraving and full fancy wood.

Larry, The Gun Trader's Guide lists the Ithaca SKBs separate from SKB..the 400 isn't mentioned under Ithaca. So it would be SKB importation after Ithaca.

Mitsui was somehow tied in with SKB I think.

Beautiful gun, is there engraving on the chambers?
