I'm a hardcore left hander, but am cross eye dominant, hence I have to close one eye while shotgun shooting. Definitely make sure you get him started off right as that's been a handicap to me all my shooting life.
He should learn to use right handed shotguns, that way he can shoot anything anybody gives him. I don't even swap the safety around on an auto or pump, learned to reach around the trigger guard when I was a kid and it just makes life more simple.
A left handed person can learn to do things right handed a lot easier than the other way around as we're used to living in a right handed world.
