At the Vintagers's show at Sandonna a few years ago I bought a Barbour Flat Cap. Now this one is waxed cotton and made in China but it is a Britsh flat cap.
I never wore it after I got home as they look peculiar in the Panhandle of Texas but at a Vintager's event at the NRA New Mexico Whittington Center a couple weeks ago I put it on.
While we were shooting sporting clays the wind blew mightily. It blew two side by sides out of a gun rack and out onto the ground. It blew one of the heavy steel station cages over. My British Flat Cap never even came close to coming off. There were guys there who were wearing ear muff hearing protectors over their ball caps and the wind was removing both cap and muffs. Again my British Flat Cap didn't even come close to leaving my head.
I am very impressed by this performance and have been wearing it to the gun club here when I shoot clays. Get lots of trash talk about my hat but it performs so well I don't mind.
I always see pictures of guys driving convertibles with the flat cap on and now I think I know why. It is the only thing that will stay on their heads.
And I am frequently mistaken for Brad Pitt when I am wearing it.
Best,
Mike
