It looks to be similar to the 1875 patent by Charles Edward Sneider and Charles William Sneider: http://www.google.com/patents?id=cHxNAAA...y_r&cad=0_0 whose predecessor at the U.S. Patent Office might have been: http://www.google.com/patents?id=AilcAAA...cad=0_0#PPA2,M1 .
