this 21 has been 'humped' and no matter the money nor the restoration it sucks up, it will never be of interest to any collector. It is a shooter and that is all it will ever be. Spend your money to make the thing mechanically sound, keep your cost basis below 5K if you are interested and then shoot it, forget the aesthetics.

$4500.00 for it sounds pretty reasonable for a skeet gun and it would easily sell for more than that around here. I have a few extra sets of original 21 wood, so that wouldn't be any problem. Redoing the barrels for a few hundred dollars, if they are bad, would give you a nice gun worth a lot more than that. Remember, the extra set of barrels are worth more than two grand alone, so you would be getting a skeet gun (by itself) for $2500.00. Not too shabby. But, to each his own.

Yeah, if you want to use your $750 wood set on a gun like this, or if you wanted to part it out, yup, it's probably worth the money. Let's see, $4500 plus the $750 wood set equals $5250 if you incur no gunsmithing fees. OK, $5250 minus the very optimistic $2000 you might get for the barrels equals $3250 invested in a ragged out, ground down, 26" 12 gauge skeet gun that will letter as a two barrel set. No thanks.

This is the way I look at it, eightbore. I have two nice sets of Model 21 wood that I have had for years. Plus a few other splinter forends. I didn't pay over $150.00 for either set of wood. Probably not over $100.00........ $4500.00 for the gun, sell the extra set of barrels for the $2000.00 since he doesn't even know if they are bad or not. And you have a skeet 21 for $2500.00 Or keep the barrels. Reengrave the letters for about $25.00 per letter. And if the gun shoots, which he has no reason to believe it doesn't, it would be a nice rare gun for $2500.00. And, if you are going to keep the gun and shoot it, it won't matter what it letters, now will it? And do the extra barrels even letter to the gun, anyway? It doesn't really sound all that bad to me. I am glad people passed on all these guns over the years. It left more bargains for me.

Or, if one goes the other way and goes all out on the gun, you would have a 21 that would worth about $8500.00. And you wouldn't have to spend nearly that much to get it into nice shape. It would be a nice project gun that could be worth it in the end.

Yes, I agree that it could be a nice gun. I have had a Model 21 project or two and liked them when they were done. I would rather pay a buck or two extra and not have to address problems or refinishing.
