Picked up a $650 safe for $495 at Blain's F&F last week. Will hold up to 24 guns and fire rated at 1500 degrees for 30 min.

Thier safes are on sale until the 31st. If you open a cc account, you get 10% more off, which is what I did.

Joe-enuf is enuf. This friend in Alaska lost some priceless guns, at least have the decency to stay off this sad thread. I have a Browning safe, replaced the steel pins with stainless and welded a 304 stainless plate behind the S&G lock to prevent a "oxy-acetylene torch" opening-and it is inset into a cinder block wall and capped roof, and on a 4" poured floor with heavy angle and 5" graded bolts anchored into the poured cement-and cement also has a kindling temperature (higher than mild steel)but hopefully it would retard a fire- I read the postings on the PGCA site-what great firemen and neighbors- seems to me that in remote areas of our great Country we still have the "good neighbors" to rely on-and insurance is of course a necessity, but no check from State Farmers or Auto-Loaners can replace a older Model 70 or a CHE dove gun-tragic and my gun-loving heart goers out to these folks. Thanks to all who posted and remembered all Vets as well- I have a USMC buddy in Fairbanks-just heard he has terminal cancer- possibly from Agent Orange-life sometimes sure ain't fair!! RWTF

I think I remember contributing to this same conversation sometime back on this or another board about fire rated safes. Some of you still do not get it(moats). Forget about the false sense of security you have about your guns going throught a fire in a fire rated safe. I have seen guns go through a fire in a quality fire rated safe and as you can see in the photos referred about, you will not want them anyway.

These safe makers have instilled a con job on you that a fire rated safe will protect your guns! ( They even have the gonads to charge you more for this phoney protection!)Check again pilgrims, in the photos and the link above and see what a good job the fire rated safe has done!

I bought my safes to prevent access to the guns by kids and intruders. Any fire protection is of secondary importance.

I've got two gun safes one is fire rated one is not...I suspect in a bad fire both would burn up...but not as quickly as a plastic lined deep freeze.

I have heard fire rated gun safes are just lined with sheet rock.

"no joke".....a guy at the gun club keeps some of his hand guns in the oven.
