Imagine trying to get the blind square holes tight against the lumps. It's alot of work.

Here's post two Rabbit I'm not following you...the lumps don't touch the bottom of the "blind square holes".

To me, Zapper implied that it would be more difficult to get perfect bearing of lump SIDES to SIDES of foursquare recess rather than to foursquare hole. The blind or stopped mortise or recess for the lump creates an impediment to dressing with a file. I always thought these bloody Brit guns were supposed to be "hand-built". Nobody has said a damn thing about the lump touching the bottom of a blind mortise. Thru lumps might be worked to a bit higher quality since everyone can see at least the end of one even with gun closed. The current watchword "transparency" comes to mind. As for stength of action bar being greater without thru lump, I guess 2P has done that one in for boxlocks with sear axles right in line with the breakoff and as for strength of thru or blind lump, I guess Nitro has some evidence that it didn't seem to make much difference. I always assumed it did so I'm following along and learning. I'm not into indices of social and economic decline as evidenced in how guns are constructed, at least at the level that Lowell plays this game. Might as well read tea leaves.

Guess we'll need to see what Boss&Co., and Purdey has done to their bottoms.
