Then you would have 4 times the gun.

A high grade gun, with the wood and medal just perfectly fitted, the checkering expertly executed; the whole piece perfectly balanced then you look at a bowling pin with wings or a flying turnip engraved into the side plate!!! The rose and scroll could be perfectly executed while the animal portrayals were next to being cartoonish destroying the whole effect. I'd rather not see it.

Rustic birds for the American gun - never for the English!

Some of the Ithaca Dogs have the same problem. Very nice engraving(in many cases) and then they would throw some ill-proportioned dog that would stick out like a diamond in a goat's rear end. I just don't get it? Lou HAD to know it was down right UGLY. Always wondered about that.

Joe, I think you're a little bias there. If it wasn't a Scott you would be the first one on this forum calling that big piegon or grouse or eagle or whatever it is just what it is, UGLY and out of proportion. If they would have done the the smaller birds like they are and where the large bird is continue with the oak leaf motif. The gun would look much more elogent IMO.

Rose and scroll are fine, whether German, English or American or whomever but until that Bulino engraving came along no one in my opinion engraved a good bird or dog or any animal for that matter.

With 100+ years of use you think Bulino style birds will still be visible ?
